The Opportunity

The Commercial Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting strategic decision-making through financial analysis, pricing strategy, and business development support. This role involves close collaboration with regional teams, business development (BD), and executive leadership to ensure commercial success across tenders, quotes, and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Must current hold a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or related field.
  • Proven experience in financial modelling and commercial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of tendering processes and pricing strategies.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Must have intermediate to advance level computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Application Excel & CRM System Salesforce
  • Prior experience or background in similar operational industries, ie. mining, transport, logistics, etc.
  • Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & ability to communicate with a variety of people
  • Ability to manage time & multiple priorities effectively to ensure all deadlines are met
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening

Key Responsibilities

Financial Analysis & Modelling

  • Develop and maintain financial models for pricing tenders and quotes.
  • Conduct scenario analysis to assess financial implications of strategic decisions (e.g., asset leasing vs. purchasing).
  • Review and validate pricing models submitted by Business Development and Commercial teams.
  • Mentor and train team members on financial modelling best practices.

Tender & Quoting Support

  • Review quote requirements and issue pricing quotes.
  • Review and contribute to commercial sections of tender submissions.
  • Ensure pricing and financial inputs are accurate, competitive, and strategically aligned.
  • Coordinate with bid teams to ensure timely and high-quality submissions.
  • Support the submissions of tenders and coordinate post-tender activities.
  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for pricing decisions and approvals.
  • Develop CAPEX documentation for opportunities with >50% likelihood.
  • Support high value CAPEX proposals for board approval

Strategic Planning, Delivery & Execution

  • Contribute to the development and review of national and local strategies.
  • Conduct desktop studies and support quoting for projects.

Commercial & Business Development Support

  • Collaborate and coordinate with General Management, Commercial Management & Business Development teams on pricing strategies & operational solutions
  • Liaise between the Commercial, Business Development, Financial Management & Operational teams and departments
  • Provide training & mentoring to other Commercial & Business-Development team members
  • Attend operational sites & facilitate meetings with acquisition targets
  • Represent the Commercial Management team in processes of due diligence & reporting
  • Support the Operations teams as upcoming projects transition from commercial to operational

 

Reporting & Compliance

  • Input & update Salesforce with current & historical data
  • Prepare briefing documentation & create presentations for quarterly executive reviews
  • Ensure all compliance standards are achieved with quality audits & QRM RACI checklists

 

Key Deliverables

  • Develop & deliver an effective financial modelling process and maintain consistency of the model across the organisation
  • Lead from end-to-end all pricing processes for new or existing tenders, quotes and contracts
  • Conduct scenario & sensitivity analyses to evaluate risk and maximise return on new and existing projects.
  • Manage the lifecycle of tenders & quotes
  • Business & CAPEX case development
  • Provide M&A support including business plans and due diligence.
