The Opportunity

With continued growth at Qube Bulk, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Shift Manager to join our Port Operations team in Port Hedland.

Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to lead and manage operational teams on shift to achieve productivity, safety, and customer performance standards.

  • Ensure effective communication of standards, expectations and procedures through pre-start safety, information discussions, and meetings.
  • Select, prepare, and direct the use of appropriate equipment in a safe and productive manner, contributing to safe work practices, damage prevention, and productivity.
  • Direct and manage the performance of operational teams to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Complete and process all required documentation, including damage reports, discharge plans, and load plans.
  • Communicate and consult with vessel Chief Officers and representatives to ensure performance objectives are meet in line with vessel plans.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Employment Agreements (EAs), OH&S and environmental legislation, as well as company policies, taking corrective action where required.
  • Resolve workforce queries related to policy and practice, escalating issues to the Port Manager where appropriate.
  • Identify and submit hazard and near-miss reports. Conduct safety observations, and recommend corrective actions to the Port Manager

 

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the Mining, Ports and Logistics industries
  • Intermediate computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Current and appropriate licences (e.g. forklift, rigger, crane) — highly regarded
  • Sound technical knowledge and experience in stevedoring, vessel operations, and planning — highly regarded
  • National Police Clearance – dated within 12 months of application 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening 
  • Strong interpersonal skills & ability to communicate with a variety of people
  • Experience working in high-risk operational environments — essential
  • Understanding of operational capabilities of machinery and lifting gear
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
  • Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
