About the Role

Qube Forestry is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our workshop team in Portland, Victoria. You will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel-powered heavy vehicles, mobile plant and associated equipment supporting our forestry and transport operations.

This is a hands-on role suited to a mechanically capable and safety-focused tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship and keeping equipment operating safely and reliably.

Key Duties

  • Inspect, service, maintain and repair diesel-powered heavy vehicles, mobile plant and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs, adjustments and component replacements using appropriate tools, testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing and mechanical inspections in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company requirements.
  • Conduct post-repair testing to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable and fit for operation.
  • Respond to breakdowns and urgent repairs to minimise operational downtime and maintain an "on time in full" approach.
  • Perform other mechanical and workshop duties as directed by the Workshop Supervisor, Supervisor or Leading Hand.
  • Obtain and complete work orders, repair requests and required maintenance records accurately.
  • Identify parts required for repairs and notify the Workshop Supervisor of major parts requirements.
  • Record parts usage, vehicle details and time worked in accordance with company procedures.
  • Complete required Take 5 / SLAM assessments, follow SWIs and comply with Qube 7 Safety Keys and site safety procedures.
  • Apply personal danger locks when working on vehicles and equipment and follow all isolation and lock-out requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace and comply with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Immediately report incidents, accidents, hazards and equipment damage to the Workshop Supervisor.
  • Maintain productivity and complete assigned work within required timeframes.
  • Follow workplace procedures, including timekeeping and authorised use of Qube vehicles and resources.
  • Work cooperatively with workshop personnel to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Assist with training and supervision of apprentices and less experienced personnel as required.

About You

To be successful, you will have:

  • AQF Certificate III in a relevant automotive or diesel mechanical trade (or equivalent) or higher; or at least 3 years of relevant work experience in diesel/heavy vehicle mechanical maintenance and repair.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, heavy vehicles and mobile plant.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical faults using systematic testing and diagnostic procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow work orders, safety procedures and site requirements.
