About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to lead our Marsden Point Port Workshop, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance of heavy machinery and port equipment. This is a hands‑on leadership role, ideal for someone confident on the tools and capable of supervising day‑to‑day workshop operations.
You’ll be responsible for both mechanical work and leading a small team, with a strong focus on safety, planning, and operational delivery.
Location: Marsden Point
Status: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead day‑to‑day operations of the Marsden Point workshop
- Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain heavy plant (loaders, excavators, forklifts, trucks, and attachments)
- Supervise and support a small mechanical team
- Plan and prioritise work to meet operational requirements
- Ensure all maintenance meets safety, quality, and compliance standards
- Participate in rostered call‑outs as required
Who we're after:
- NZQA Level 4 Automotive Heavy Engineering qualification (or NZQA‑recognised equivalent)
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy machinery
- Strong leadership, organisation, and planning skills
- A proactive self‑starter with a hands‑on approach
- Strong safety mindset and commitment to Zero Harm
