IT Systems Engineer - Technician

  • Tauranga, New Zealand
  • Full time
  • Opening on: Oct 22 2026

What's on offer:

  • Competitive remuneration package
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment across NZ & AU
  • Exposure to modern infrastructure, cloud, and enterprise systems
  • Career progression within a large, nationwide organisation

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced IT Systems Engineer - Technician to join our Platform Services team based in Tauranga.

This role is ideal for someone who can hit the ground running and enjoys being hands-on in a fast-paced operational environment. You'll play a key role in supporting and maintaining the technology that keeps our business running, with a strong focus on IT Operations, platform reliability, infrastructure support, and operational technology across our nationwide port network.

This is not a purely desk-based support role. You'll spend time working directly with technology in operational environments, supporting everything from servers and infrastructure through to equipment and operational technology used across our ports and sites.

If you enjoy solving problems, taking ownership, and getting out into the business to support technology where it's needed most, we'd like to hear from you.

Location: Mount Maunganui

Status: Full-Time Permanent Position, Monday - Friday, Office Based

Specific Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain server, compute, and infrastructure platforms
  • Assist in delivering reliable and secure IT Operations services across the business
  • Provide escalation support to Service Desk and Network teams
  • Resolve incidents, service requests, problems, and change activities efficiently
  • Support operational technology environments across ports and operational sites
  • Assist with technical projects and transition solutions into support
  • Maintain system documentation, runbooks, asset registers, and infrastructure diagrams
  • Work alongside third-party vendors and service providers
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the IT Operations environment
  • Participate in a rostered after-hours support schedule
  • Occasional travel to other Qube sites throughout New Zealand may be required

Who we're after:

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years experience in IT Operations, infrastructure support, systems administration, or technical support environments
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server, infrastructure, and enterprise systems
  • Experience using ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, JIRA, or similar platforms
  • Exposure to Operational Technology environments would be advantageous
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Well-organised with strong documentation skills
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of issues through to resolution
  • Motivated, proactive, and ready to contribute from day one
