ABOUT THE ROLE
Qube is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to provide mechanical maintenance across site plants, mobile machinery, and vessel‑related equipment. This hands‑on role offers variety and the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement within QUBE Ports. The role is primarily Monday–Friday, however availability outside core hours for vessel operations and urgent breakdown response is highly desirable.
Specific Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with QUBE Ports Health, Safety & Environment policies and all relevant legislation.
- Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments/JSAs, and promptly report hazards, incidents, and near misses. Prioritise and perform repairs, servicing, and complex mechanical work to QUBE standards.
- Conduct planned maintenance on forklifts, end‑loaders, bobcats, excavators, and other machinery.
- Maintain the fertilizer conveyor system, bulka bagging system, bulk grabs, and hoppers.
- Diagnose faults, perform fabrication and welding repairs as required.
- Complete Mainpac work orders accurately and on time.
- Operate the safety Tag Out system.
- Liaise with contractors and specialist mechanical service providers.
- Support continuous improvement and contribute to meeting operational targets.
- Conduct pre‑start inspections and remove hazards before commencing work.
- Use tools, equipment, and machinery safely and efficiently.
- Communicate machinery faults, equipment failures, and operational issues to the Site Manager.
- Assist in maintaining productivity and preventing equipment‑related downtime.
- Complete all required Mainpac entries and associated paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with the Enterprise Agreement, Industrial Awards, and QUBE Ports policies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and support audit requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed apprenticeship in a relevant trade (motor mechanic, diesel fitter, mechanical fitter, fitter & turner, boilermaker, welder, or equivalent).
- Post‑trade training or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience in mechanical maintenance within a workshop or industrial environment.
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to diagnose faults quickly and accurately.
- Welding competency (as required by QUBE Ports).
- Ability to read service manuals and technical documentation.
- Experience with bulk grabs, conveyors, and port‑related equipment (highly desirable).
Key Competencies/Skills
- Strong understanding of QUBE Ports maintenance requirements and operational procedures.
- Ability to work at heights and meet QUBE medical fitness standards.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Strong visual perception and hazard‑identification skills.
- Ability to conduct toolbox talks and support contractor coordination.
- Sound knowledge of Port of Brisbane operations
