About the Role:
As a Workshop Assistant, you’ll carry out cleaning, greasing, and basic maintenance across a range of port machinery including forklifts, excavators, loaders, and terminal equipment. You’ll also inspect equipment and report any damage, working closely with our mechanics to keep everything running smoothly. Ideal for a qualified mechanic wanting to step back from core mechanical work and support the workshop more broadly, or a newly qualified mechanic starting out.
Location: Gisborne
Status: Permanent role working Monday - Friday 0700 -1600
Key Responsibilities:
- Support servicing and repairs during downtime
- Clean, refuel, and inspect machinery
- Record usage, hours, and maintenance tasks
- Carry out greasing, lubrication, and basic upkeep
- Assist with moving equipment and swapping attachments
- Help keep workshop machinery in safe working condition
Who we're after:
- NZQA Level 4 Automotive Heavy Engineering qualification (or NZQA‑recognised equivalent)
- Proven experience working on heavy vehicles and machinery.
- Understanding of hydraulic systems.
- Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Bring a positive, can-do attitude to the role.
