Infield Plant Mechanic

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of the Infield Plant Mechanic is to provide general mechanical support for our Infield chipping operations. This role would include servicing and maintaining specialist forestry equipment e.g., Skidders, Feller-bunchers and Peterson Chippers.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical inspections and servicing (preventative maintenance tasks) as directed by the maintenance manager on all mobile plant and equipment
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance (corrective maintenance tasks) as directed by the maintenance supervisor or planner on all mobile plant and equipment
  • Attend to, rectify, and report any equipment breakdowns immediately
  • Complete any mechanical works as recommended by Original Equipment Manufacturer
  • Ensure all completed mechanical documentation are submitted to the maintenance supervisor or planner for record keeping
  • Assist in identifying and implementing maintenance opportunities for improvement
  • Assist other roles for any tasks deemed necessary by management
  • Participate in any meetings- including any prestart, maintenance meetings and HS meetings and any other meetings deemed necessary
  • Notify maintenance supervisor of any defects/damage on all mobile equipment
  • Liaise with supervision to ensure vehicle inspections and major repairs are planned and scheduled

Qualifications and Experience

  • Heavy Duty Diesel mechanic trade certificate
  • Minimum of two years across heavy/medium/light vehicle experience
  • Minimum of two years post apprenticeship experience
  • Experience in mobile plant equipment (Heavy Vehicle mobile mining equipment preferred)
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of people.
  • Ability to work autonomously using proactive approach to task resolution
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
  • Ability to work well within a small team environment
  • MR/HR truck license recommended but not preferred

Key Competencies/Skills

  • Strong Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter fault finding skills
  • Deliver effective mechanical decisions to ensure mobile machinery reliability and operability
  • Strong Safety Focus
