  • Supportive, collaborative team environment across NZ & AU

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on System Engineer to join our Platform Services team. This role suits someone who enjoys owning their space, taking initiative, and leading by example — not someone seeking a purely desk-based IT support role. You’ll play a key role in supporting and mentoring the wider team, while remaining hands-on supporting the IT operations of our Qube Ports business.

You’ll be responsible for the reliability, security, and performance of Qube’s server, infrastructure, platform, and Operational Technology environments. This includes hands-on support across ports and operational sites, working directly with technology on mobile plant, machinery, portacoms, cranes, and other equipment. If you’re looking for a role focused mainly on remote or behind-the-desk support, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.

Status: Tauranga Quay House Office, Full-Time, Permanent Position, Monday - Friday, Office Based

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage and support server, compute, and infrastructure platforms
  • Provide escalation support to Service Desk and Network teams
  • Resolve incidents, problems, and change requests efficiently
  • Carry out IT operations work within key areas, supporting technology on mobile plant, machinery, portacoms, cranes, and other operational equipment as required
  • Support technical projects and transition solutions into operations
  • Manage third-party service providers and service delivery against SLAs
  • Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, asset registers, and system diagrams
  • Participate in operational reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in a rostered after-hours support schedule
  • Adhoc travel to other sites across New Zealand maybe required within the role.

Who we're after:

  • Tertiary qualification in IT
  • 5+ years’ experience in IT operations, platform services, or technical support
  • Experience using tools such as ServiceNow, JIRA, or similar
  • Hands-on Operational Technology experience (e.g. Electronics, Raspberry PI’s, Camera systems/CCTVs, Auto Tally Stations, Debarker, Radios, Harbour Cranes, Scanners)
  • Strong documentation skills, including system diagrams and operational runbooks
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
