ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand to support the delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance operations at Bell Bay. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for coordinating daily maintenance activities while actively participating in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance across plant, mobile equipment, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and support a small maintenance team in daily activities
  • Allocate and prioritise preventative and reactive maintenance tasks
  • Perform hands‑on maintenance, fault‑finding, and repairs on plant, mobile equipment, and infrastructure
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimise operational downtime
  • Provide technical support, mentoring, and on‑the‑job coaching to team members
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with WHS, HSE, and permit requirements
  • Conduct toolbox talks and participate in safety meetings
  • Ensure isolation, risk assessments, and controls are in place prior to work commencing
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors performing maintenance work
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept in a safe and serviceable condition
  • Liaise with operations teams to plan maintenance activities with minimal disruption

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant trade qualification (Mechanical or Electrical – essential)
  • Experience working in an industrial, port, logistics, mining, or heavy maintenance environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating a small maintenance team
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
  • Sound understanding of maintenance safety systems, isolations, and risk management
  • Basic computer skills and experience with maintenance reporting systems
  • Ability to obtain or hold an MSIC
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation relating to load restraints
  • Knowledge and experience of applicable standards and legislation for dangerous goods handling and storage awareness
  • Minimum Certificate III qualifications in warehousing operations

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience maintaining mobile plant and materials handling equipment
  • High‑risk work licences (e.g. forklift, EWP, dogging, rigging)
  • Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
